Kayak Getaway

kayak-3-puget-sound.jpg The Snow Goose is teaming up with Anacortes Kayak Tours as a Mothership to explore the San Juan Islands.  With a crew of local residents, days will be spent kayaking to outer islands and evenings will be aboard the 65′ vessel.  Gourmet meals and a glass of wine awaits paddlers along with a cozy bed and warm salon.  Wake up to a cup a coffee and breakfast, pack a prepared lunch and head out the next day in a kayak to explore where motorized boats can’t go.  For $799 per couple one can experience the Northwest in comfort.  For more details visit anacorteskayaktours.com under ’specials’ or just contact Snow Goose.

Birding with NCI and Don Burgess

Flocks of birds were abundant in Bellingham Bay this sunny February weekend as the North Cascades Institute teamed with the Snow Goose to learn from the expert Don Burgess.  The diversity of species was more than we could imagine.  If you were there, please feel free to post your species list and then others can add to it.  What a great day on the water with such an inquisitive group of adult learners.  Happy birding.

Some of you that have traveled on the Snow Goose may wonder what she looks like below the waterline.  Here are some photos taken by my 6 year old son Ivan.  Our annual haul out and Coast Guard inspection this winter was a success.  Don’t let the photos fool you, Paul and I painted as fast as we could due to the fact that the rain was relentless and the snow was beginning to fly.  Now she is safe back in her slip on Gate 12 with a seaweed and barnacle free belly.  With a little more to do, we’re getting ready for a season with the Marine Science Program and cruising in remote Alaska.
